Parris reveals new four-track EP 'Passionfruit'

DJ and producer Parris has announced a new EP, ‘Passionfruit,’ which will be released on March 22 via his own co-founded imprint can you feel the sun.

The first single ‘why can’t rabbits wear cowboy boots’ of the four-track EP features playful bouncy percussion over darker kicking drums.

In a post via Instagram, the Hackney-born artist revealed the track is “dedicated to a big reece bassline, sampling simlish from whatsapp voice notes and most importantly asking the most important questions in life which we ask each other in the very early (or late) hours."

The track was dropped Tuesday and is available to stream via streaming services.

‘Passionfruit’ is to be Parris’ first solo release in two years and follows from 2021’s anticipated ‘club-rooted pop’ album; ‘Soaked in Indigo Moonlight.’

On the topic of his first album, Parris wrote, “it took me quite a while to find my groove again in writing music.”

‘Passionfruit’ will see Parris’ retain his affinity for polyrhythms and synths whilst deeper into his "love for clubbing and UK sound systems." The result, writes a press release, is a heady house compilation.

With a sound that combines, grimey drum and bass beats with slick pop references, ‘Passionfruit’ is inspired by "lots of different moments of the night" Parris says, "whether its the warm-up, the peak or the afters."

Second to ‘why can’t rabbits wear cowboy boots is ‘Underwater Fantasy.’ Featuring disco-style vocals, the second track of the EP has been reported to be "the straightest-sounding track to come from Parris."

Sitting contrastingly next to ‘why can’t rabbits wear cowboy boots,’ the first and second tracks have been described as “alternate universe club classics.”

With each track intended to be a contention of the one before, the third record, eponymously named ‘Passionfruit,’ said to be inspired by Parris imagining “early morning of a set with the sunrise coming through the shutters,” followed by ‘Slipping, Falling, Crawling,’ a percussion-heavy track with "raw intent."
