Pangaea returns to Hessle Audio with 'Installation'

Pangaea has this week returned to his own Hessle Audio label and shared single 'Installation'.

Taking heed from a mixture of techno and pop, the cut-up vocals bounce throughout the track and collide with the memorable groovy bassline hook.

It displays yet another case of the esteemed producer and DJ seamlessly blending genres and counteracting sounds to finish with a dancefloor-ready, yet distinctly Hessle Audio, track.

“This one is driven by the kick and distorted bassline, which has got a good weight behind it so it sounds decent played on large and smaller systems which is always a good sign!" Pangaea tells Mixmag. "The vocals are mangled in a way I haven’t really done since 2011’s ‘Hex’, so for me both tracks have similarities.

"'Installation' is a lot more techno/tech-house orientated of course, but it’s still the bassline driving the track, and that’s been the case with the majority of my tracks over the years.”

It's been a decade and a half since the emergence of McAuley, with his distinctly familiar yet futuristic sonic identity rife throughout his discography. Inspiration stems from his longtime engagement with the intersection of disparate UK dance music cultures, coupled with a thirst for experimentation and rhythmic exploration.

This year marks 16 years since his first release for Hessle Audio, which McAuley co-founded with Pearson Sound and Ben UFO. The release of 'Installation', it feels, is a truly full-circle moment.
