Outernet and Tate launch abstract art installation soundtracked by Four Tet

An abstract art installation soundtracked by Four Tet is now being be displayed at London's Outernet.

Created by Palestinian-American artist Samia Halaby, the immersive concept has been commissioned by Outernet and the Tate Modern as part of the Electric Dreams: Art and Technology Before the Internet exhibition.

Halaby, who is known as one of the early innovators of digital art, has created two brand new works specifically for the space’s floor-to-ceiling warp around screens, as well as presenting one of her most iconic works ‘Brass Women’.

These colourful, moving paintings will be accompanied by avant-garde compositions from the renowned electronic artist.

Passersby will be able to view the piece at Outernet's Now Building outside Tottenham Court Road Station until March 31.

“Sound is a key element to Halaby’s work, with the artist often collaborating with musicians using both acoustic and electronic instruments,” reads a press release.

“For this significant commission, Halaby has joined forces with Four Tet, the moniker of London-based producer Kieran Hebden, known for blending electronic music with elements of jazz, folk, and hip-hop, to create atmospheric, experimental soundscapes. Halaby’s colourful kinetic works are set to Four Tet’s layered and textured sounds, taking viewers on an epic sensory journey.”

The Now Building is located on Charing Cross Road next to Tottenham Court Road Station and open daily from 10:AM to 11.30:PM. It is free to visit.

Meanwhile, ‘Electric Dreams’ will run from November 28 2024 to June 1 2025. Bringing together over 70 artists from across the globe, the exhibition sets out to investigate the relationship between art and technology.

In September, Four Tet released a track with vocalist Ellie Goulding via Three Six Zero Recordings.

‘In My Dreams’ marked the pairs first collaboration in four years since 2020’s ‘Baby’.
