“The only authentic beach club left in Ibiza”: Petition launched to reverse ban on DJs at Sa Trinxa

A petition has been launched after local authorities in Ibiza reportedly banned DJ performances at long-running beach club Sa Trinxa.

In a new post shared on Instagram yesterday, June 17, resident Jon Sa Trinxa wrote: “Ibiza cancelled. No more DJs at Sa Trinxa”.

A follow-up message was shared on his Instagram story, explaining that “DJ sessions have been suspended” at the club due to “heavy force”, but that it will continue to “have music”. He wrote: “Thank you very much for your understanding and loyalty.“

In light of the news, a petition was launched yesterday in the hopes of “reversing” the decision, gathering more than 2,000 signatures so far.

“Sa Trinxa has hosted music performances since the 1970s, occupying a special place in the hearts of the island's residents and visitors alike as one of the longest active beach clubs in Ibiza,” the petition reads.

“With no credible reasons, this cherished tradition has come to an abrupt halt. This battle isn't just about preserving our musical tradition, but it's also about fighting for our right to cultural diversity and authentic expression.”

The petition calls on authorities to urgently “reconsider the decision and to open up a discussion” to the public, “so as not to lose our last authentic beach club”.

“To preserve this vital piece of Ibiza's music history, please sign this petition and support our cause for music liberty at Sa Trinxa,” it reads.

Back in 2017, the San José municipal town hall told 16 of its most popular beach clubs, including Bora Bora and CBBC, that they were no longer allowed to host DJ sets or live performances.

The crackdown was an attempt to reclaim the beaches after locals and tourists voiced concerns over a lack of public spaces on the island’s shores.

No further details around the reported ban have been confirmed as of yet. Mixmag has reached out to Jon Sa Trinxa and local authorities in Ibiza for comment.
