Ibiza to issue £2,500 fines to tourists breaking new alcohol rules in San Antonio
Updated penalties on alcohol sales and consumption will hit the White Isle in 2025
Tourists in Ibiza are being hit with yet more restrictions on alcohol purchases and consumption in 2025 following initial rules placed last May.
Last year, Ibiza introduced fines for those not adhering to new rules, which clamped down on the sale of alcohol in shops across San Antonio between 9:30PM and 8:AM, and banned tourists from drinking in the street.
Initial penalties of €750 and €1,500 were placed for those breaking the rules in Ibiza’s San Antonio and neighbouring island Majorca, affecting areas including Palma and Magaluf.

The Balearic government spent €16m on enforcing new rules and restrictions, Sky News reported, after additional security and inspections were placed in “hotspot” areas.
As of 2025, those restrictions have been updated, Birmingham Live reports. Tourists breaking rules will now face fines of £2,580 (€3,100).
Restrictions were initially introduced in 2020 in a bid to curb “anti-social behaviour”, and were tightened in May 2024 after the Balearic government said it was attempting to stop “excessive tourism”.

Balearic Islands Tourism Council press officer Luis Pomar said in 2020, when the first decree was placed, that he hoped the law would not be needed today if “we instil in people how to behave”.
Rules will remain in place until 2027, it was announced last May. While alcohol restrictions do not affect bars, restaurants, or clubs, they do affect party boats within one nautical mile of San Antonio.
The decree looks to crack down on rowdiness and excessive drinking in popular tourist locations. The number of sanctions taken against tourists will be counted and reported back to respective embassies.
