​Nine-year-old Astroworld victim dies following crowd crush

A nine-year-old boy has passed away following injuries sustained at Travis Scott’s Astroworld Festival, becoming the youngest victim of the incident.

The child, who was placed in a medically-induced coma after a crowd surge at the festival, passed away on Sunday making him the tenth victim of the event.

Dallas-born Ezra Blount sustained injuries at a crowd surge on November 5 during Travis Scott’s headline performance at Astroworld festival, where he was “kicked, stepped on, and trampled”.

According to the Blount family’s lawyer, Ben Crump, Ezra died at Texas children’s hospital in Houston on Sunday over a week after the event.

The nine-year-old’s father, Treston Blount, set up a GoFundMe page shortly after the festival where he raised $80,000 toward Ezra’s medical bills.

He described the event in which his son went missing after Treston passed out, and later found him in hospital with multiple injuries.

“I had my son on my shoulders awaiting Drake’s stage appearance,” he described. “I began to be crushed until I couldn’t breathe, I passed out and I woke up and my son was gone.”

Treston found his son at the local hospital with swelling to his brain and trauma “to nearly all organs”, after being “kicked, stepped on and trampled, and nearly crushed to death”.

The family have now launched a lawsuit against Live Nation and Travis Scott following the tragedy, where they’re seeking at least $1 million in damages.

The event is now under investigation, spotlighting Scott and festival organisers, Live Nation. “[We are] thankful for all the prayers and positivity, we are asking for donations for his medical bills and anything that comes along with this tragedy,” Ezra’s father posted on the GoFundMe page.
