Welcome to Mixmag’s round-up of upcoming music releases that you should take note of

Jen Cardini to release first solo EP since the '90s on Chloe Caillet’s label

Jen Cardini has announced they’re releasing a solo EP for the first time since the '90s, a three-tracker titled ‘Petit Monstre’.

It’s coming out on March 27 via SMIILEWAX, a new vinyl-focused sublabel of Chloe Caillet’s SMIILE RECORDS.

The record is described as “a personal statement and a time-spanning club document”. Cardini says “petit monstre is French for little, cheeky troublemaker and I’ve been a proud little monster since 1974, very much still active”.

Polygonia explores ‘Ceaseless Motion’ on Timedance EP

Polygonia is releasing a four-track EP via Timedance on March 27.

It marks a debut on the Bristol-based label for the former Mixmag cover star.

‘Splintered Soul Fragments’ is streaming now, led by unstable bass.

Supa D and Maestro UK link up on Konstance & Seal remix

Supa D and Maestro UK have joined forces on a remix of Konstance and Seal's ‘Mama’.

The duo have put an Afro house slant on thje balance of vocals from veteran singer Seal and rising star Konstance. 

It’s landed via Idris Elba’s label 7Wallace, with the original track featuring in Idris Elba-directed film Dust To Dreams

Alewya to release debut album ‘ZERO’ on Because London Records

Ethiopian-Egyptian artist and curator Alewya is releasing her debut album ‘ZERO’ on June 26.

The first single ‘City of Symbols’ (feat. eejebee) is out now, featuring passionate vocals and an affecting instrumental.

The LP was made alongside long-term collaborators Craigey Dodds and Dean Barrett, as well as Busy Twist on some tracks, with Shy FX the Executive Producer.

Speaking about it, Alewya says: “Zero is the beginning, middle and end. Zero is infinity’s twin.”

Olof Dreijer shares details of debut album ‘Loud Bloom’

Following a string of celebrated EP releases on Hessle Audio, Dekmantel and AD93, Olof Dreijer is gearing up to release his debut album 'Loud Bloom' — which will land on George Daniel's DH2

The new record has been teased with first single 'Echoed Dafnino', which features vocals from Sudanese-born, Cairo-based singer MaMan, while other features include Zulu/English MC Toya DeLazy, and Colombian percussionist Diva Cruz.

Rene Wise makes debut on Dekmantel's UFO series with new EP 'Johnson's Theme'

UK-born, Lisbon-based musician Rene Wise - AKA Andrew Shobeiri - is set to make his debut on Dekmantel's techno-orientated UFO series with four-track EP 'Johnson's Theme', which will be released on April 17.

Pairing hypnotic loops with scuttling percussion, the EP's title-track is centred around a meandering melody and pitched-up, distorted vocals. Check it out below.

Plead, Python and Piezo, AKA PPP, team up for new five-track EP 'Bborn Again' 

Described as a "a whirlwind new link-up between contemporary club heartthrobs", PPP - aka DJ Plead, DJ Python and Piezo - are set to release a new EP 'Bborn Again' via Wisdom Teeth on April 10. 

Created across two years, the new project came together following stops from both DJ Plead and DJ Python at Piezo's studio in Milan; 'Bborn' has been teased with first single 'Wisco', listen to it below.

Simo Cell and Abdullah Miniawy release new 8-track project 'Dying Is The Internet'

French producer Simo Cell and Egyptian singer, poet, producer and composer Abdullah Miniawy have reunited to release a new album 'Dying is the Internet' via Dekmantel's UFO series. 

Marking the pair's second outing following 2020's 'Kill Me Or Negotiate', the new record is a damning exploration of our relationship with technology, and how the internet became "less about sharing ideas and more about surviving in a digital business ecosystem."

Purposefully stretching across an extended play time, in opposition to the "reel-ready two-minute attention span of the average social media surfer", 'Dying is the Internet' sees the pair experiement with auto-tune and voice design.

James Blake drops new album ‘Trying Times’ featuring DAVE

James Blake has dropped his seventh studio record, ‘Trying Times’, marking his first time embarking from the “safety net” of a major label to release an album on independent LA imprint Good Boy.

Claimed to be his “favourite album” that he’s made to date, the 13-track record features collaborations with DAVE, Monica Martin, Josh Stadlen and Khushi, exploring solitude, loneliness and the intricacies of navigating modern life.

Chris Stussy drops new track ‘Darkness’ ahead of debut album

Chris Stussy has dropped the first track from a forthcoming full-length project set to land later in the year, out now on his own imprint Up The Stuss.

‘Darkness’ gives a first look at a new musical era for the Dutch house trailblazer, set to land on the first part of the three-part ‘Lost, Found & Forgotten’ album, with the first six-track chapter ‘Lost’ arriving on April 3.

DJ Nobu lands on fabric Originals with new five-tracker

Techno maester DJ Nobu has announced the release of his next record, ‘Shō’, set to arrive on fabric Originals on March 27 as a five-track EP inspired by Buddhism.

The record journeys a spiritual story inspired by the “foundational virtues of the Brahmavihāras, the four ‘Sublime States’ of Buddhist practice”, with the first track, ‘Karyn’s’, out now.

“In recent years I became overly sensitive to my surroundings and society, finding myself strongly affected by every daily occurrence,” he explains. “It was during this time that I discovered meditation. And beyond that lay Buddhism. Through this, my sensibilities became able to express themselves more naturally. I decided to portray my feelings, and the scenery in Tokyo, conveying what I was experiencing in real-time, as music.”

Earl Sweatshirt, MIKE and SURF GANG have joined forces on a new double LP titled ‘POMPEII // UTILITY’, set for release on April 3.

The lengthy new project spans 33 tracks that were years in the making, featuring a number of collaborations. The 2xLP’s first double lead single, ‘Minty // Earth’ is out now.

Jaguar returns with new single ‘Gimme Dat’ on her UTOPIA imprint

Ahead of her forthcoming Dalston Superstore residency, Jaguar has returned with a brand new single on her UTOPIA imprint, titled ‘Gimme Dat’.

‘Gimme Dat’ sees Jaguar return to high-energy form, fusing noughties nostalgic rave and Detroit techno inspired by her favourite video game The Urbz.
