A new friend-finding tool, the Totem Compass, is set to launch next month — which will allow you to locate friends within a crowd without needing phone signal, Wi-Fi or Bluetooth.

The nightlife-tailored device is designed to look like a compass, with users able to carry around the palm-sized gadget or wear it around their neck.

Perfect for finding your mates at a nightclub, festival or other large-scale events — the compass works by using its firmware to determine the direction of others using the device, by guiding you to them with a ring of glowing lights

When searching for your friends, the people in your group will get alerts on their own devices to let them know you are on your way.

The maximum range between two compasses is up to 1000 metres, however its "Unity Mesh Network" feature is said to extend that range “indefinitely for all compasses in the network, regardless of whether they are part of your group.”

A compass holds over 72 hours of battery lasting a whole weekend at a festival and is easily charged via USB-C.

The size of the compass is 50mm by 15mm, or as Totem say: “About the size of a double stuff Oreo." One device weighs only 35 grams.

The compass is also 100% waterproof and dust-proof preparing for any type of festival weather.

Totem’s Compasses will be available from April at $49 (£38.62) per device with a waiting list here.
