New Bristol venue Moon Club to implement no-phone policy
From the team behind Lakota, the new club will ask anyone taking photos or videos on the dancefloor to leave
Moon Club, the brand new venue opening in Bristol next month from the team behind Lakota, has announced a no-phone policy on its dancefloors.
The new 220-capacity venue is set to open in St Paul’s in September within the same Stokes Croft Brewery Building where Lakota currently sits, featuring an L-Acoustics 360° quadraphonic soundsystem.
On Friday, August 15, the venue revealed via Instagram that it will ban photography on its dancefloors, saying that it will ask anyone breaking the rules “to leave” the venue.

“From day one, filming on the dancefloor will not be permitted,” they said. “Phones can still be used in other parts of the venue, but in the crowd, we’re asking everyone to be present and enjoy the moment.”
They continued: “Guests who ignore the policy may be asked to leave. The policy isn’t about being restrictive for the sake of it. It’s about protecting the atmosphere that makes a club special.”
The team behind Moon Club also revealed that preparations for its opening in early September are “flying along”. Details for initial events are still yet to be announced.
“We want Moon Club to be a place where the focus is on the experience, the sound, and the energy in the room,” they said. “This is about respect for the crowd, the artists, and the night itself.”

They went on to add that an in-house team will film and photograph certain nights to be shared later, allowing guests to “relive the moments without missing them in the first place”.
Moon Club is the latest in a growing number of venues to employ a no-phone policy. Manchester club Amber’s has operated with a phone-free rule since opening in December, while the city’s Warehouse Project series has just announced a photography ban for its 2025 season.
Elsewhere, new Ibiza nightclub Tomodachi just recently announced its opening with a "strict no phones policy", serving as a space where a “business-driven ethos is left at the door.”
