A new book is celebrating 10 years of Sports Banger

A new book is celebrating 10 years of the beloved UK label and fashion brand Sports Banger, titled Sports Banger: Lifestyles of the Poor, Rich & Famous.

The book, penned by Sports Banger founder Jonny Banger, is due for release on Saturday, October 28, via Thames & Hudson.

Lifestyles of the Poor, Rich & Famous looks into the history of the cult label, including photographs of Sports Banger’s ‘anarchic story’, from studio ephemera to protests and fashion shows.

The book also features writing from installation artist Jeremy Deller, fashion writer Nathalie Khan, and writer & curator Anastasiia Fedorova.

Speaking to Resident Advisor, Jonny Banger explained that the book is “a celebration”, documenting 10 years of the label and fashion house - first launched in 2013.

“The work has found a home,” he said. “It's a DIY cookbook that I hope will inspire others to get shit done. It's also rave, resistance and eccentric British iconography. Rave and politics have always been arch nemeses, so I suppose this is what you get when you smash it all together."

Lifestyles of the Poor, Rich & Famous charts the rise of Sports Banger from the days of its bootleg operation creating subversive t-shirts, to a recognised and loved fashion brand and record label.

Other pieces featured in the book include one-off pieces produced for Skepta, 2 Chainz, Samantha Morton and David Hoyle, as well as a “full T-shirt archive” of iconic Sports Banger bootlegs.

“Sports Banger is a genre-defying, boundary-breaking fashion collective run by Jonny Banger, who interrogates British pop culture, fashion, class and politics through the subversion and (mis)appropriation of branding,” reads the book’s blurb.
