Munich nightclub LEGAL launches fundraiser to help support its future
The venue is experiencing financial pressures amid rising costs and a “sudden” rent increase
Munich-based nightclub LEGAL has launched a fundraiser to help support the venue after revealing that sudden financial pressures have placed the club’s future under threat.
Last month, LEGAL shared a post on Instagram urging for donations, explaining that despite “many well-attended nights, strong line-ups, and fantastic guests,” the venue is now experiencing “unexpected” financial strain.
“Our project is constantly on its financial limit,” the post reads (translated to English). “To date, we've given the club almost everything – countless hours of work, all our energy, and all for well below minimum wage – out of love for the cause.”

“We've continually reinvested — in better technology, in the room design, in the sound, in the lighting, in the infrastructure, in the people who support this place, and in a club experience that feels honest and special. But all of this comes at a cost.”
The team behind the club said that it “could not have foreseen so many major burdens” hitting LEGAL at the same time, and now accumulates rent arrears of more than €23,000, utility costs of over €10,000, and another “expected” €10,000 for last year.
“At the same time, the basic financial burden remains consistently high. Overall, we are currently facing a massive additional financial burden of €44,040," they said.

So far, the venue has raised more than €32,000 through its fundraiser, which will go back toward the club’s overheads and current debts.
LEGAL also said that its rent has now permanently increased due to the “index-linked” contract. “We now have our backs against the wall,” they said.
“If we can't cover these costs in the short term, LEGAL will be facing closure. Our ongoing operations are so cost-intensive that, despite increased attendance in 2024 and strong sales, there will simply be virtually no profit left.”
