Motion Bristol appeals for support to prevent closure in 2025
Owners say the venue "will close" next year when its license expires unless its community can "remind decision-makers" of its cultural impact and importance
Motion Bristol has appealed for support to prevent its closure, amid revelations that its license will expire in July 2025.
The much-loved nightclub has been based out of its Avon Street home since 2006, though its future is now uncertain after requests for an extension to its lease, and offers to purchase the building, have reportedly been declined by owners.
In a statement posted on Instagram today (November 13), Motion said: "It is with a heavy heart that Motion Events Ltd. announces the impending expiration of our lease for the beloved property at 74-78 Avon St, Bristol BS2 0PX, which will end in July 2025."

"Despite our heartfelt request for a lease extension and to purchase the property, the current owners have refused, leaving us facing immense uncertainty," the statement continues.
Motion added that the venue was now in a "challenging position" due to the building now being up for sale, claiming owners have expressed a desire to sell to local developers despite "no planning permission having been granted" by Bristol City Council for a development on the site.
"As we navigate this difficult chapter, we earnestly appeal to the community to stand with us," the statement continues. "Your voices resonate powerfuly; they hold the potential to advocate for a future in which Motion continues to thrive and enrich Bristol's cultural landscape."
