Millionaire DJ Mikaela arrested in drugs raid at party in Greece

London-based DJ Mikaela Jav has been arrested in Greece after being accused of organising a drug-fuelled party.

Mikaela, whose real name is Izzat Khanim Javadova, was arrested on December 30 at a party in a luxury villa in Kalyvia Thorikou, a town near Athens. Police reportedly found 45 packages containing ecstasy, cocaine, crystal meth, LSD, xanax, tusi and other drugs and a safe containing cash worth more than €43,000 (£35,000) in the bedroom she was staying in.

This isn’t the first time Javadova, 44, has been the subject of investigation from legal authorities. In 2021, Javadova and her husband, Suleyman Javadov, agreed to surrender £4 million to British authorities that had reportedly been gained from a £2.1 billion money-laundering scheme, nicknamed the ‘Azerbaijani Laundromat.’

Javadova comes from a powerful Azerbaijani family. She’s a cousin of Azerbaijan’s autocratic leader, President Ilham Aliyev, and her late father is Azerbaijani MP Jalal Aliyev, the brother of the former President of Azerbaijan, Heydar Aliyev.

On Friday, January 3, the DJ appeared before a magistrate in Greece alongside nine others and has since been detained on charges of aggravated drug trafficking.

According to Greek broadcaster ERT, Javadova denies the charges.

“I did not organise the party and I did not send online invitations. Also, they did not find drugs on me,” she said to the TV station.

She added that the event was “a Tekno Berlin kinky party dedicated to love and music”, and that the accusations were “an attack on LGBTQ people” as they portray the attendees as drug users.

According to Greek City Times, corrupt police officers were hired as security for the party, and a tip sent to the Hellenic Police led to the raid by the narcotics department.

13 people were arrested in total, including three police officers accused of illegally providing security and surveillance services.

The Times reports that the owner of the villa where Javadova was arrested claims that she paid the €1,000 security deposit for the accommodation, and that the building suffered significant damage during the party.

The party-animal heiress reportedly owns a host of lavish properties spread across Azerbaijan, Ibiza and London, including a £4 million flat in Whitehall and a £5 million townhouse perched on the Thames in Richmond.

She established the dance music label Love the Underground Records in 2015 while living in London, and previously held a residency at Space Ibiza with her techno party ONYX.
