Marquis Hawkes
Hawkes might have delivered one of the tracks of the year
We're big fans of Marquis Hawkes here at Mixmag. The illusive producer has been crafting dancefloor-ready cuts for a while and whether it's dusty techno, nostalgia-flecked house or abrasive acid, it always hits the sweet spot.
He's found form of late with the Houndstooth camp and although he's dropped EPs via Dixon Avenue Basement Jams and Clone, the Fabric sister imprint is now a place he calls home, and what a fit it is.
He released the 'Raw Materials' EP back in April and if you thought that was an impressive outing, just wait until you hear what he's cooked up next. Back on Houndstooth again, the 'Sweet' EP is another example of Hawkes showing off his unparalleled ability as a producer.
Four tracks of heavy-artillery are on offer and we've got the first spin of the title cut and 'Sweet' is a scarily-infectious house jam. It's got a sumptuous r'n'b sample rotating throughout and when coupled with a killer groove and the damn mischievous percussion, you've got a contender for one of the best tracks of the year. Lovely stuff.
The 'Sweet' EP is out on October 30, you can preorder it here
