Loraine James announces third album, ‘Building Something Beautiful For Me’
The record reimagines unreleased and original work by American composer Julius Eastman
Loraine James has announced the release of her third album under her own name, 'Building Something Beautiful For Me’.
The eight-track record is set for release on October 7 via Brighton’s Phantom Limb label, over a year on from the release of her critically acclaimed record on Hyperdub last summer.
“Happy to announce my new album called Building Something Beautiful For Me on Phantom Limb out October 7th. This album is a response to the work of late great Julius Eastman,” James announced on Instagram yesterday, July 19.

On her next record, James pays homage to the American composer Julius Eastman through reworks, re-imaginations, and responses to some of his most recognised works.
Through Brighton-based label Phantom Limb, who are also fans of the late composer, both James and the imprint connected with the surviving brother of Julius Eastman, Gerry, to continue his legacy.
James was given a zip drive loaded with unreleased and original work of Julius Eastman’s from his brother to work on, which the DJ, producer, and live performer has now reshaped.
