London radio station LOOSE.fm moves to new location in South London

London-based radio station LOOSE.fm has cut the ribbon on its new studio in South London.

Now situated within the Greenwich Peninsula Design District, the station's new home is designed by architecture firm CAUKIN Studio. Built from repurposed shipping containers, the bright green and yellow structure incorporates LOOSE.fm's signature eyes-and-mouth logo — "brought to life" by lighting designer space studio's Joshua Space.

In an instagram post shared earlier this month (July 3), the station confirmed that it is back "broadcasting bold sound and big personality from this one-of-a-kind studio."

LOOSE.fm stopped broadcasting from its basement home close to Old Street, East London, two years ago; having been situated there since 2020, the station cited the cost of living crisis as one of the reason's behind its closure.

"Sadly, after 14 years, the company who ran the basement didn’t survive the 22/23 economic crisis, and we had to move out of the studio very quickly, losing most of our equipment in the process," the LOOSE.fm team wrote on its fundraiser.

Earlier this month, LOOSE.fm confirmed work had been completed on the new studio, meaning that the station now has a bricks-and-mortar location after 24 months of broadcasting remotely.

The station also thanked supporters of its Loose Change fundraiser, which launched in the immediate aftermath of LOOSE.fm losing its home in 2023. Netting nearly £7,000, the fundraiser had originally been marked to pay for a move to a location in Central London — however, the station said the funds "helped us keep the lights on".

"Yeah, we had to change our plan and it's taken longer than we initially hoped, but it has worked out, we think, in the end, thanks to you," the Instagram post reads.
