Leon Chue, master cutting engineer at London’s Music House, has died in his mid-40s.
The dubplate specialist was particularly revered in jungle and drum ‘n’ bass circles for his work.
He started working at his father Paul’s pressing and mastering studio Music House in 1995 during the peak of the jungle dubplate era, and on his first weekend there was a 14 hour queue round the block for his services.
He continued to work there for more than two decades, initially at its Holloway Road location and later at its current location in Tottenham Hale.
Leon Chue’s father is roots reggae artist Paul Chue who ran the Fu-Manchu and River Bank Records labels and his brother is UK garage great Wookie.
A number of musicians have paid tribute to Chue on social media, including Doc Scott, DJ Flight and David Rodigan. Read some below, and watch a video interview with Chue filmed in 2015.
Rest easy Leon Chue. 💔
