Jlin performance to be broadcast on NTS
The footwork producer teams up with Hannah Sawtell for a gig in London on Thursday
Planet Mu’s Jlin is teaming up with London-based artist Hannah Sawtell for a live performance to launch the next issue of printed journal ‘The Happy Hypocrite’, edited by Sawtell.
The gig, dubbed #ACCUMULATOR_PLUS and commissioned by Book Works, will be performed live in South London on Thursday and broadcast on NTS Radio.
The broadcast is being used as a way to explore the “questions of speed, communications technologies and the dynamics of interaction between local and global space, by revisiting recent underground histories spanning rave, pirate radio, Detroit techno and east London grime”, according to the press release.
“Thinking about use of the word plus (e.g. in Job Centre Plus) in official attempts to instill (false) optimism in people, ‘The Happy Hypocrite’ 9 imagines what it would mean to see the ‘plus’ reclaimed.”
Sawtell, who has put on solo exhibitions in New York, Norway and London, links with footwork producer Jlin, who grew up 20 minutes south of the city that birthed the scene, released her debut album on Planet Mu last year and is currently working on her second LP.
