Last weekend Jeff Mills added yet another jewel to his crown when he brought his spell-binding Light From The Outside World show to London for the very first time.

Taking place at the breathtaking Barbican, Mills performed alongside the BBC Symphony Orchestra in one of the most unique and mesmerising displays of music we've seen in a long time. He performed 14 of his own seminal tracks with the backing of the 70-piece band and trust us when we say that techno never sounded so good.

While he twiddled on his trademark Roland 909, the orchestra blasted out some of his most iconic tracks and the two worked together in perfect harmony. With nothing but a few glances between him and the composer Christophe Mangou, the synergy in the room was quite hard to believe.

Of course 'The Bells' garnered the biggest reaction and warranted being played twice. Both times the entire audience were on their feet, raving in an environment that wasn't necessarily built for clubbing. That didn't matter though, as soon as the strings came hurtling in for the main riff, the venue was cheering and screaming as if it were a stadium concert.

People fist-pumping in the aisles raised a few eyebrows and smiles from the Orchestra, a sight that they don't see all that often. They deserve as many props as Mills for such an impeccable performance.

A totally singular event and one that further cements Mills' position as one of electronic music's most visionary and important artists, from Detroit to the Barbican.
