Jayda G unites music and climate science in forthcoming documentary Blue Carbon

Jayda G is featuring in an upcoming environmental documentary, Blue Carbon, which is set to be broadcast on CNN Films later this year.

The GRAMMY-nominated DJ and producer, real name Jayda Guy, holds a master's degree in environmental toxicology and 10 years of experience in field biology.

Infusing her lifelong passions of music and science, the film is described as bringing together "music and science to uncover why listening to nature, and to each other, is key for averting climate catastrophe."

It feature musical scoring by Wu-Tang Clan’s RZA and Brazilian artist Seu Jorge, as well as featuring Guy’s new single ‘Still Be With You’ as part of the soundtrack.

The title refers to the term given to carbon captured by the world's oceans and coastal areas, with the film's website explaining “the documentary explores the relatively newly-discovered potential of oceans to absorb much more carbon from the atmosphere than even tropical rainforests.”

Speaking about the film, Jayda G said: “Blue Carbon is so important but people know so little about it - I want it to be as well known as the Amazon rainforest. It has such potential to help us combat climate change, as long as we listen to and learn from the stories of people working to protect Blue Carbon. It’s made me hopeful about our future and has helped me feel more connected with mother nature. I hope that when people watch this film they feel the same way.”

Filmed in the USA, Senegal, Vietnam, France, Colombia, and Brazil, the trailer showcases Jayda Guy in the studio, recording the sounds of the places she visits.

“This is science you can dance to,” states Guy in the three-minute clip.

Directed by Nicolas Brown, the documentary focuses on the stories of coastal communities impacted by climate change.

“In this film we are bringing together opposites — dance music and nature, or clubbing and conservation — with the aim of bringing new hope to new audiences. Crucially, the film raises the voices of people — as well as the ecosystems — that sit on the front lines of the climate and biodiversity crisis. It is time to listen to what they say!” says Brown.

This January, Guy showcased a special screening of her documentary at Potato Head Bali, as well as performing alongside Kyoto-born, Berlin-based Alex Kassian at the Bali Beach Club.
