Jakarta club Zodiac cancels JD Twitch fundraiser for safety reasons amidst civil unrest
The club made its announcement just hours before the event was due to take place over the weekend
Jakarta nightclub Zodiac called off a tribute event for Optimo (Espacio)’s JD Twitch (AKA Keith McIvor) over the weekend amidst civil unrest in Indonesia.
It comes as tensions continue to rise across the country in response to economic frustrations, with several protests taking place in Jakarta, the capital city.
The club said in a statement on Saturday, August 30, that the fundraiser event would be postponed to a later date after “much consideration”.

“Zodiac Jakarta will remain closed tonight for everyone’s safety,” they revealed just hours before the event was due to take place on Saturday night, commemorating the Scottish DJ and producer following his recent cancer diagnosis.
In July, McIvor revealed that he had been diagnosed with an “untreatable” brain tumour. A fundraiser was launched shortly after to help support the Glasgow-hailing DJ and his family with residential care.
Zodiac planned to host a tribute event “dedicated to the sonic journeys of JD Twitch”, and a celebration of his collaborations with Jakarta duo Space System, who were billed to play.

According to CNN, protests and riots erupted across Indonesia following a proposed new housing allowance for lawmakers last week, and escalated after an armored police vehicle killed a motorcycle taxi driver during a protest crackdown.
At least five people have been killed so far in the protests. Over the weekend, parliamentarians’ homes were looted, and legislative buildings across Indonesia were set on fire, per CNN.
“The event will be postponed until the situation becomes safer,” Zodiac nightclub said in a statement. “We truly appreciate your understanding, and look forward to seeing you again on the dancefloor soon.”
