Family of JD Twitch urge for help in finding accessible housing following cancer diagnosis

The family of JD Twitch, one half of DJ duo Optimo (Espacio), are urgently searching for accessible accommodation for the Scottish artist after he was diagnosed with a brain tumour.

Last week, JD Twitch – real name Keith McIvor – shared news of his diagnosis, explaining that his condition is “untreatable”. He wrote in an Instagram post: “My symptoms weren't immediately diagnosed, and my health declined very quickly over just a few weeks.”

McIcvor’s partner has now issued an update on Facebook, urging for help in finding “accessible” housing in the Glasgow area offering nursing or palliative care – somewhere “peaceful, private, and dignified”.

“Keith is extremely distressed on a busy hospital ward with five other patients,” she wrote. “Unfortunately, home is not a safe or suitable option, and we’ve been told he’s not yet eligible for hospice care based on his current symptoms.”

She went on to add that Keith is “still very much himself”, listening to music and “sharing laughs”, and is surrounded by loved ones.

Added criteria for accommodation were also shared in the post, noting that housing must be fully accessible or adaptable for a wheelchair, should be able to accommodate Keith’s “beloved” dog with outdoor access, must be calm and comfortable with visiting flexibility for friends and family, and should include “short-term supported care”.

“We’ve been pushing for a proper discharge plan for over two weeks – but the system is painfully slow and confusing,” she wrote. “We are doing everything we can to get Keith out of hospital as safely and quickly as possible.”

If you have any leads of suitable places for Keith in the Glasgow area, email [email protected].
