Illegal rave in Bristol raged on through UK heatwave

An illegal rave in Bristol was shut down by police on the morning of Sunday, July 17 after nearby residents complained of hearing loud music through the night, reports BristolLive.

The rave continued on through some of the UK’s hottest days of the year on Saturday night and Sunday morning, where temperatures reached highs of 34 degrees in Bristol.

Set up in East Bristol’s Eastville Park, the rave raged on through Saturday night until around 6:AM on Sunday morning when police intervened.

The Avon and Somerset Police force said that they began receiving noise complaints from nearby residents at around 3:30AM on Sunday morning. Officers headed to the site at around 6:AM, at which point there were still around 50 to 60 people in attendance.

Officers said they spoke to the organisers and the music was eventually turned off. The force stayed on the site until everyone had left.

Local residents complained of the noise on social media, with members of the local Eastville Park group on Facebook taking to the platform in the early hours to ask what was happening.

“Anybody know where the drumming is coming from tonight? Being going for hours,” one resident posted at 2:45AM.

“I've also been awake all night, and it woke my granddaughter at 4:AM. So selfish. Not against them happening - would have been there myself many years ago - but we used to do them miles from where people lived,” another commented later.

One resident said that they had received a “letter through the door” about the rave months ahead of time: “When I just asked my 17 yr old son if he knew what was going on last night he said it was a rave in Easton and we had a letter through the door about a few months ago.”

Others made light of the rave, with locals commenting: “Can't beat em join em I say,” and another adding: “It's the only party that's been on all year, it's just one night.”
