Iconic house vocalist Kathy Brown has launched a compilation album to raise money for her treatment of stage 4 cancer.

‘Legacy’ is set for release on July 19 via Glitterbox, and will feature a selection of Brown’s greatest hits as well as several new remixes and edits, including one from renowned remixer and house music legend DJ Spen, as well as Michael Gray, Sophie Lloyd and Moplen.

“When we found out that Kathy had stage four cancer, she told us that she had never had an album out before and that she’d love to have a body of work in one place," says Defected’s A&R manager Seamus Haji.

“So, we set about collating some of her strongest releases, including four new exclusive remixes from fans of her work including DJ Spen, Michael Gray, Sophie Lloyd and Moplen," he adds. "I’m excited about this Glitterbox release for one of the fiercest house divas of our time.”

The label is set to host a launch party on July 18 to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support, which will take place at Defected’s London headquarters.

Coming from a Gospel background in South Carolina, Kathy Brown originally found fame through her work as lead singer on Praxis' hit 'Turn Me Out', before climbing the charts as a solo lead vocalist on several seminal house music hits, including her 1994 hit ‘Joy’ and Soul Central’s 2004 track ‘Strings of Life’.

In January this year, Brown was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer, which subsequently spread to her brain. The diagnosis required an urgent operation and ongoing treatment, with her daughter Chanta Joyner setting up a GoFundMe to help support her and the family.
