Hilit Kolet has released her new EP, 'Snap Talk', via Rekids.

Following in the footsteps of her previous outing on the label, 'Hot Mess', the two-tracker embraces a hearty portion of house and techno and is propelled by Brazilian baile funk rhythms — a homage to her days as a samba dancer.

"This release is inspired by my days / years as a samba dancer at the Notting Hill Carnival," she tells Mixmag. "I used to dance semi-seriously with a leading London samba school until DJing took off and something had to give, but I'm still obsessed with the baile funk rhythms of Brazil. They're hypnotic, they're addictive, they're healing. I do miss the sheer euphoria of finishing a full-on, sweaty dance practice to the sounds of the bateria (the percussion orchestra), who are usually practising live together with the dancers."

The eponymous lead track of the EP is fuelled by powerful 909s as fellow Rekids alumnus Kameelah Waheed offers spoken-word vocals to ride the striking powerful house production, whilst 'Gate 33' on the flip is a particularly drum-heavy affair. By uniting tight-looped percussives and favela funk-patterned cowbells with a throbbing low-end - not to mention the use of airport announcement samples - the latter cut is particularly compulsive.

"When I started jamming these tracks out, the idea was to weave favela funk patterns into a fierce house/techno beat. At one point I felt like I was coming up with a new subgenre... I don’t know if I can quite claim that yet but it definitely sounds good on the dancefloor!"
