HAAi confirmed as Phonox’s new Saturday night resident

She’s taking over the reins from Jasper James in October

Jasper James is set to end his residency at Phonox on October 1 after a year-long stint of helming the Brixton club’s booth on Saturday nights.

HAAi has been locked in to take over the slot from October 8, and will now play the nightspot every Saturday for the indefinite future. She’ll take centre stage each week, playing all night long or being joined by unannounced guests.

The London-based selector has previously held a two-year long residency at Dalston venue Ridley Road Market Bar, where she’s impressed with extended sets spanning from Motown, disco and Afro-Beat to faster tempo cuts taken from across the world once the party gets into full swing.

Speaking about the new resident, Phonox’s head booker Andy Peyton said: "I first heard about HAAi from Joe Coghill (music manager), who was saying he'd heard this girl play and it was like listening to Optimo. HAAi warmed up at Phonox on two consecutive weeks, and both times different promotions managers texted me along the lines of 'Oh my god who is this DJ, she is amazing'. That's when we took notice and starting paying regular visits to Ridley Road to check her out. In terms of DJs earning an opportunity I can't think of a better candidate and can't wait for her to get started."

HAAi also shared her thoughts, saying: I couldn’t be more excited to take on this residency and become a part of the Phonox family. Since playing at the club in June with Jacques Greene I’ve been bursting to play there again. I can’t wait to bring a taste of my previous residency at Ridley Road Market Bar in Dalston to Brixton. Although I know they are pretty big shoes to fill, I can’t wait to take the reins.”

Phonox has also revealed its Autumn programme of Friday nights featuring the likes of Pender Street Steppers and Marcellus Pittman. Check it out below alongside a HAAi mix record live from Dalston Superstore.
