The British Phonographic Industry (BPI) has released figures showing the massive rise in grime sales from May 2016 to May 2017 with physical sales of grime albums increasing by 109 per cent .

Digital sales were also up 51 per cent over last year. This is made more impressive by the fact that industry-wide figures seem to show decreases in physical sales and digital downloads. Grime streams are also up year-on-year, increasing by 138 per cent, with close to 1.5 billion track plays on streaming services over the year.

A lot of this is down to chart success with artists like Skepta, Stormzy and Giggs leading the way for the genre. Stormzy shot to number one in the charts earlier on in the year with his debut album 'Gang Signs & Prayers', and Skepta also held a top 10 spot with 'Konnichiwa' last year.
