GoFundMe launched to help Chicago house pioneer DJ Lee Collins fight cancer
The campaign aims to raise $75,000 for the Chicago legend, who "urgently needs treatment"

A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to help the Chicago house pioneer DJ Lee Collins pay for "urgent treatment" and "beat cancer".
The appeal was launched yesterday (January 29) by fellow Windy City DJ Sadar Bahar and Ornella Cicchetti, the founder of Collins-affiliated record label Sounds Familiar.
On the campaign's website, Bahar and Cicchetti wrote that Lee "dedicated his life to creating unforgettable nights, filling dancefloors with joy and sharing the power of good music".
They added: "Now, Lee is facing a battle with cancer and urgently needs treatment. This is our opportunity to show him same love has has given us all these years."
"Your donation, no matter the size, will go a long way in helping with his recovery." they said.
Born in Chicago, Collins first caught the attention of the city's emerging house music scene with his college radio show, Disco Madness, which he started in 1983.
The show led to a club night at Music Box, where Collins was playing around the same time as Frankie Knuckles and Ron Hardy, which saw him become an influential selector in the genre.
Collins later linked up with Bahar to form production duo Soul in the Hole, the same name of the label and event series initially launched by Bahar and Russell Dixon in 1989. It has released numerous records and thrown parties around the world, with its most recent event taking place last year.
At the time of writing just over $8,000 has been raised for Lee Collins' cancer treatment. The fundraising target is $75,000.
