Gigamesh makes 'History' with new release
Stream the latest from the US producer whose debut album is about to drop
US producer Gigamesh has announced his debut album and shared its first single 'History'.
The Minneapolis native made a name for himself with tantalising remixes of hits including Fleetwood Mac's 'Dreams' and sun-soaked, synth-heavy originals such as last year's 'The Music' and 'Control' ft. Caroline Smith.
Now he's back with his first album 'Time Travel', which is set to be released in two five-track volumes, the first of which will drop August 19.
With a nod to French touch influences, 'History' delivers a funk-driven slice of gleaming electro pop featuring NYC subway singer Damon C Scott, whose soulful vocals you might recognise from Storm Queen's 'Look Right Through' (or MK's huge remix of it).
Gigamesh said: "'History' is a song that sums up my outlook on life. The lyrics are unabashedly optimistic, however I don't intend for it to be blindly positive.
"I am a pretty politically engaged person and politics can often be pretty disheartening, especially the current climate in the USA.
"However, I fundamentally remain confident that compassion and wisdom will save us from the forces of hate and ignorance. That's what 'History' is about."
He added of the album: "Nearly all the songs on 'Time Travel' reference some aspect of time ... I liked the idea of using time as creative glue because it's something we can't see, which sort of makes it equally scary and exciting. I'm releasing the album in two volumes/EPs to further play into the concept."
'Time Travel Volume I' is out August 19. Stream 'History' below.
