A shooting at a nightclub in Anambra, Nigeria, has reportedly killed “many"

An attack on a nightclub in Anambra State in Nigeria has resulted in multiple fatalities and injuries.

The Anambra State Police Command DSP Tochukwu Ikenga has confirmed the incident, which took place at the Porsche Nightclub in Oba, in the Idemili North Local Government Area of the state.

Ikenga told the Nigerian Tribune: "Yes, the incident happened. Our men were alerted, and they quickly moved to the scene of the incident, but the gunmen had already fled.

"Our men have recovered the bodies of the vigilante operatives who were fatally wounded, while others sustained various degrees of injury.

"We have also fully deployed our men to Oba, and the operation is ongoing. So far, no arrest has been made," he said.

A witness Chukwuemeka Ezefunamba spoke to the Lagos-based Daily Post, stating that the gunmen arrived at the nightclub claiming that they wanted to "kidnap" the club owner and security attempted to resist them.

"As a result of the resistance, the gunmen started shooting sporadically, killing many people in the process," Ezefunamba recalls.

"They also beheaded one of the security men who resisted them from taking the owner of the nightclub," he adds.

Daily Post also report that a source believes seven people were killed, and one security member had his foot cut off by the gunmen.

Mixmag has contacted the Anambra State Police Command and the Nigerian Police Force for a comment on the situation.

This is a developing story.
