Record Store Day’s 10th anniversary is shaping up to be its most exciting year yet. With big-name releases from David Bowie, Prince and this off-kilter, obliterating Burial remix of Goldie.
‘Inner City Life’ is a seminal track, one many dance music fans hold close to their hearts, released on Goldie’s 1995 debut album ‘Timeless’. Burial, the brooding face of dystopian dark dubstep, has stepped out from the shadows to put his signature crackle and fizz into the exhilarating cut.
With a sound more associated with latter releases from the Hyperdub hero, the vocals of the late Diane Charlemagne are distorted and looped over the classic Goldie production. It paints a vivid and, at times, breathless cityscape of urban living - equally emotional and as it is erratic.
Also included in the release is the 2017 Goldie Rebuild of 'Inner City Life', featuring the vocals of long-time Goldie collaborator Espa.
If you aren’t able to grab a limited 12” 180 GSM vinyl cut from participating record stores on Record Store Day, we’ve got you covered. Check out the track below.
