Erick Morillo has died age 49.

The DJ was found dead in Miami Beach on the morning of September 1. The news was initially reported by TMZ, and has since been confirmed to Mixmag by Miami Beach Police Department.

The cause of death has not yet been confirmed.

In a statement sent to Mixmag, Miami Beach Police Department said they are investigating the death and that no foul play was observed at the scene: "The Miami Beach Police Department is investigating the death of Mr. Erick A. Morillo (DOB: 3/26/71). We received a 911 call this morning at 10:42 a.m to 5660 La Gorce Drive in Miami Beach. Detectives responded to the scene and did not observe any apparent signs of foul play. The cause of death will be determined by the Miami Dade Medical Examiner’s Office."

Morillo's death comes just under a month after he was arrested and charged with sexual battery on a woman.

The New York-born DJ initially denied the accusation against him but handed himself in after a rape kit tested positive for his DNA.

His arraignment, the court proceeding at which a criminal defendant is formally advised of the charges against him and is asked to enter a plea, was due to take place this Friday, September 4.

Morillo became a superstar DJ in the 90s thanks to hits like 'I Like To Move It' and recorded under a number of aliases including The Dronez, RAW and Real 2 Real.
