DJ Shadow confirms seventh album coming in 2023
The next record from the US DJ/producer is said to be “genre ambiguous”
DJ Shadow has announced the release of his next record - set to be his seventh studio album to date - landing later this year.
The US DJ and producer announced the news on social media on Wednesday, January 25, revealing: “There will be a new DJ Shadow album in 2023.”

In a longer statement posted on his website, the producer said: “I’m way overdue to provide an update on what I’ve been up to, so here goes. I commenced work on my 7th solo album on January 1st of 2022.

“As usual, I didn’t have any preconceived notions or objectives, I just started by making music that made me feel good or satisfied vague objectives in my mind. By mid-March, certain themes began to take shape, and a loose set of personal 'rules' decided, which helped me navigate toward a cohesive body of work.”
DJ Shadow’s last release, ‘Our Pathetic Age’, landed as a double LP in 2019 featuring 23 tracks. He revealed that, while the next album will be a more “conventional length” in comparison, there will be fewer vocalists and collaborations.
The new record is also said to be “genre ambiguous” and will reflect the producer’s “recent experiences and evolving thought processes, both positive and negative”.
“There is a unifying premise, which may or may not be obvious to the listener, depending on the extent to which I choose to amplify it,” he added in a lengthy statement.

“Only now, roughly a year in (prolonged work stoppages notwithstanding), do I feel confident confirming that an album will be released this year.”
DJ Shadow also touched on recent personal battles in the statement, telling fans: “the past year has been unlike any other in my life. I find myself at multiple crossroads, both personally and professionally.
“32 years into a professional career, I honestly have no idea what I represent to whom…perhaps I never have. Yet, I carry on, because at age 50, this is all I know now.”
