DJ Bone

DJ Bone spins sets that are hard-hitting, fast-paced and dexterously constructed. The In Session mix he delivered for us last year is a perfect example, filled with bangers that are moved through with serious flair. It was well worth its placing in our Top 10 of 2015 list.

He may have DJ in his name but he’s a prominent producer as well. The debut DJ Bone release arrived in 1996, and over the past two decades he’s put out some of the most electrifying releases going, hitting a serious production hot streak since 2004.

The majority of his output has come through his Subject Detroit imprint including debut album ‘Out Of Knowhere’, and in between the slew of his own work he’s found time to cut music from Juan Atkins.

Next up on the label is the first in a series of split EPs with Swiss techno artist Deetron titled 'The Storytellers', with the pair also embarking on a joint tour together this year.

Side B belongs to Bone, featuring a track titled ‘Black Patterns’ and two reworked versions. In typical Bone fashion ‘Black Patterns’ throws listeners straight into the action from the opening beat as piano stabs and hi-hats rain down heavily. As it progresses things get more and more driving with crashing percussion and vocals chops that sound like they’re echoing into the distance as the beat speeds past.

Listen to the premiere below.

'The Storytellers' EP is out through Subject Detroit on May 27
