Der Zyklus
A twitchy slice of Kraftwerk-tinged dystopia from the electro pioneer
'Perspective Grid' is the opening track on 'Axonometric', a rare release from cult techno and electro figure Gerald Donald under his Der Zyklus guise. Due to land via ZONE Records on September 15, it is a recording that proves even after all these years he is still at the top of his game.
The Detroit producer – better known as one half of legendary duos Drexciya and Dopplereffekt – often uses his Der Zyklus moniker to test sounds at the outer points of electro and techno, and 'Perspective Grid' continues that trajectory.
With the precise drum programming that is prominent across all of his projects, this restless cut delivers a heavy dose of pent up nerves with huge slabs of jittery synths and abstract rhythms.
ZONE Records is of course the label run by French pair The Hacker and Gesaffelstein, who have worked extensively with dance royalty such as Miss Kittin, as well as delivering the dark synth-pop delight that is Keluar's 'Panguna' in June.
Listen to the premiere of 'Perspective Grid' below. 'Axonometric' will be available digitally as well as on a limited vinyl release.
