20-year-old dies after falling ill at Manchester's Hidden nightclub

A 20-year-old man has died in hospital after falling ill at Manchester’s Hidden nightclub on the weekend, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) has confirmed.

In a statement to Mixmag, a spokesperson for the GMP confirmed that "police were called to a report of an incident" at the Cheetham Hill venue "at around 2:30AM in the early hours on Saturday morning (8 June)."

"A 20-year-old man had become unwell and was transported to hospital. Tragically, despite the best efforts of emergency services, he later passed away," the statement concludes.

The man is believed to have fallen ill during a party from Teletech; with Hidden and the Manchester-based techno promoter sharing a joint statement on Instagram yesterday (Sunday, June 9) titled: "STATEMENT REGARDING LAST NIGHTS EVENT."

“We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss that occurred at our venue in the early hours of this morning," the statement reads. "Our heartfelt sympathies go out to the family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.

“Hidden has always been a place for people to come together, enjoy music and culture in a safe space and we are heartbroken by this incident."

"The safety and well-being of our customers and staff are always our top priority and in light of this tragedy, we have decided to cancel the event on Sunday as a mark of respect and to allow us to evaluate with our team.”

The statement concludes: “We will continue to assist the police with their inquiries.”

GMP have yet to confirm a cause of death for the as-yet-unidentified 20-year-old, but enquiries are ongoing.
