Cornwall locals called “nimbys” following complaints of illegal woodland rave
Disgruntled locals complained of “crap” music through the night until the early hours
Locals in Cornwall have been called “nimbys” following complaints of an illegal rave taking place last weekend in a woodland near Truro, Cornwall Live reports.
Devon & Cornwall Police received complaints of a possible unlicensed event taking place on the evening of Saturday, October 26, which reportedly continued until Sunday afternoon.
Police attended the illegal rave site in Ladock Woods close to Truro shortly after midnight, confirming: “Officers attended on two occasions and liaised with those present about noise,” (via Cornish Times).
They’re also reported to have issued “strong words of warning around driving under the influence prior to the group’s departure,” adding that those on the site cleared off “by mid-Sunday afternoon” when individuals were declared fit to drive.

After the event was shut down, Cornwall Live reported seeing mixed comments online from locals, with some defending the rave. One local called those who complained “nimbys”, while another said: “Just a group of people having fun and great music - what's wrong with that?”
“It was an absolutely wicked night with banging techno/hardstyle. Stop the moaning, you only live once! Enjoy it while you can,” another commented.
Some locals complained of “crap music” late into the night, with one person joking: “The music was so bad, they didn't even play Neil Diamond.”

Others considered the continued closure of nightclubs in the area as a reason for these illegal raves cropping up. A recent report from CGA Neilson revealed that 65 nightclubs in the UK have closed down since the start of 2024.
“Cornwall is going to have a lot more like this as the council only have themselves to blame by not issuing licences to the nightclubs,” one person commented (via Cornwall Live).
“They’re all gone and shut down because of incomers moving down here who don't want anyone spoiling their quiet million pound holiday home. Events like this are going to get a lot more commonplace in the Cornish countryside.”
