Boundary Brighton launches "pay-what-you-can-afford" tickets ahead of next month's festival

Boundary Brighton has launched a "pay-what-you-can-afford" ticket initiative ahead of next month's festival.

Taking place on September 28 at Stanmer Park, Brighton, Boundary is offering 1000 tickets to 18-24-year-olds — an age group who have been hit the hardest by the Cost Of Living Crisis.

On sale until August 21, the tickets start at just £10 — with the cost of tickets going up in £5 increments, allowing each festival-goer to purchase up to two tickets at whatever price they can afford.

Boundary Brighton will donate 25% of each ticket sale to its charity partner, Starr Trust — an organisation working to empower young people in the Brighton and Hove area.

As the city’s largest electronic music festival, Boundary Brighton launched the scheme to "give back" to the community that has supported it over the past seven years. It is aimed specifically at young people who have been hit hardest by the financial crisis.

Over the past five years, the UK has seen more than 170 festivals disappear as soaring costs and changing consumer habits threaten the industry, with smaller, lesser-known festivals struggling the most.

Boundary Brighton hopes that by making its tickets more accessible to a wider audience, it might be able to maintain production standards without having to cut costs, whilst giving those who might not be able to come otherwise, a chance to experience the joys of dancing to live music in a crowd of like-minded people.

Other festivals have introduced similar schemes in recent years. In 2022, Croatia's Outlook launched a pay-what-you-can system in acknowledgement of the "current climate", while this year, Shambala Festival launched The Pay It Forward: Share The Love scheme, which allowed people to apply for a fully funded ticket.

On the line-up for this year's edition of Boundary Brighton, festival-goers can expect sets from the likes of Wilkinson, K Motionz, Flowdan, Harriet Jaxxon, Denis Sulta, Joy (Anonymous), Eliza Rose, and more.

For those who have already bought tickets to the event, loyalty tickets will be made available after the festival. Boundary Brighton has asked those who can afford a standard-price ticket to refrain from using the ‘Pay What You Can Afford’ option.
