Viking vengeance epic by Robert Eggers The Northman will be released in theatres on April 22nd, and Focus Features has published a new trailer featuring Björk's role, the Seeress.

Following 2015's The Witch and 2019's The Lighthouse, The Northman is Eggers' third feature film. The screenplay for The Northman was created by Eggers and Icelandic poet Sjón, who has collaborated with Björk on songs.

Eggers recruited Robin Carolan, the founder of Tri Angle Records, and Sebastian Gainsborough, best known as Vessel, for the film score. Back Lot Music will release the album online on April 22, and Sacred Bones will release physical versions on July 1.

Ralph Ineson spoke to NME back in March and described The Northman as an “enormous movie” and added: “I saw a four-minute montage of some of the stuff they’d already shot and I was really blown away. The marriage of Rob Eggers’ imagination and Viking folklore… Jesus, man.”

Speaking of a specific scene Ineson said: “Alexander Skarsgård looks like an absolute beast.

“[There’s] a scene where he beats this guy in a battle; bends down and rips his throat out with his teeth, screams to the gods and he’s got his shirt off – and you think: ‘My god that’s not a bodybuilder doing a scene, that’s like a proper serious actor!’”
