Bill Brewster is mixing the next Late Night Tales compilation

Bill Brewster, the NTS Radio resident, author, producer and DJ, is mixing and curating the next instalment of Late Night Tales' After Dark series.

‘After Dark - Vespertine’ is a groovy freestyle collection that displays Brewster's skillful crate-digging. The compilation is out on August 4 and will be available as a continuous mix or a playlist with individual, unmixed tracks.

Bill Brewster’s eclectic taste means he can send just as many hands in the air in packed rooms with his underground house sets as he does sending feet twirling playing dubby disco, funk and trip hop for intimate crowds. With a career that began in the '80s in the UK but took in during stints playing to early '90s Harlem warehouses, Brewster's affinity from spontaneity and musical surprises are a testament to his wide-ranging influences

Ahead of the release, Brewster has released two singles - a collaboration with Fernando for '1998' and the Niall Edit of 'So What'.

As a wrtier, Brewster has lent his encyclopaedic mind of music knowledge to many publications, including regular articles with Mixmag, as well as collaborating with long time friend Frank Broughton on acclaimed book Last Night A DJ Saved My Life, as well as disc jockey instruction manuals like How to DJ (properly) and How to DJ right: The Art and Science of Playing Records, a further testament to his commitment to documenting and participating in every aspect of the dancefloor.

His latest instalment in his After Dark series for Late Night Tales hones a vibe described by Bill as “a basement, a red light and a sound system. Or, as the Beasties once rapped, 'slow and low, that is the tempo'.”.

The compilation is filled with underrated and fresh gems, with all tracks either brand new or making their digital debut. His skills as a producer are also shown with a featured bass-heavy rendition of country hero Jeb Loy Nichols’ ‘Don’t Drop Me’, made by him and Alex Topper under the Hotel Motel alias. There’s also a disco-pilled rework of global-psychedelia jazz group Khruangbin’s ‘So We Won’t Forget’.

It also journeys through masterful examples of Hawaiian bossa balearica, deep house, dubbed-out soul cuts, Afro post-punk, jazz and bouncy disco.
