Berlin's Renate will reopen in 2026 after reaching new rental agreement
The long-running nightclub was set to close for good on New Year's Eve, but will now relaunch at an "unknown date" next year
Berlin's Renate will reopen in 2026 after reaching a new rental agreement with its landlords.
In a statement shared with Mixmag, a spokesperson for Renate confirmed that the venue secured a new lease on Tuesday (December 16), ensuring that the club can relaunch next year. Renate will still need to close "temporarily" after, what was set to be, its final event on New Year's Eve.
In August 2024, Renate announced that it would close permanently after 18 years at the end of 2025, when the lease expires for its home - a formerly abandoned apartment block on Alt-Stralau in Friedrichshain.

At the time of the announcement, the team cited rent hikes for its closure, promising that it would “continue Renate’s operations, either in a different form at the current location or at a new site” following its "displacement".
Renate will still close following its 86-hour closing party kicking off on December 31, with a press statement confirming that the team are currently in the “final stages of ending operations and vacating the premises.”
“Details beyond the fact that Renate will continue in 2026 are still in development,“ says Renate's owner and CEO, Robert Kreissel. ”We need to essentially restart the club, rebuild the team, reorganise organisational processes, start new bookings and plan for a future that has come as a welcomed surprise."

“We have a massive job ahead of us,“ he continues. ”So there will be a break after New Year's Eve where the club will remain temporarily closed, but we look forward to keeping everyone informed on what comes next as soon as that information is available.”
“We truly believe that every message of support only helped to show just how much value we have to the city and nightlife lovers and showed just how important it was that we continued operations.“
“It feels that the outpouring of support is what got us to this point and we want to honour that by taking this time to further develop Renate as a cultural venue, employer, and integral part of Berlin's club scene in a sustainable and impactful way that respects all involved.”
Renate has published more information around its reopening in a blog post, you can read it here.
