Man dies after falling ill at Sheffield’s Bassfest
South Yorkshire Police have issued a drugs warning following the death
A 20-year-old man has died after falling ill at Sheffield’s Bassfest, which took place over the weekend (July 16 and July 17).
The man is believed to have taken drugs over the weekend, and South Yorkshire Police have issued a warning regarding drugs - imploring anyone who feels ill after taking drugs at the event to seek medical attention and to check on friends.
The 20-year-old from Holmfirth in West Yorkshire died in hospital on Saturday night. Inquiries are currently being conducted to determine the circumstances behind the man's death.
In an update after the death, a South Yorkshire Police statement said: “We were called by Yorkshire Ambulance Service at 9.04:PM yesterday (Sunday 17 July) to reports that a man had been taken seriously ill at the Bassfest event at Don Valley Bowl in Sheffield.
“The man, aged 20, from Holmfirth in West Yorkshire, was taken to hospital, where he was sadly pronounced dead. His family have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers at this time.
“Officers released a warning to the public, encouraging anyone who attended the event, or knows someone who did, to check in on each other and to seek medical attention if they feel unwell.”
According to South Yorkshire Police, a 23-year-old Ipswich woman is still hospitalised in a critical but stable state.
Bassfest took place at Don Valley Bowl, Sheffield, and featured sets from Chase and Status, Bou, Bad Boy Chiller Crew, Interplanetary Criminal and more.
South Yorkshire Police is asking anyone with information to phone 101 and reference incident number 993 of July 18 in order to help investigators.
