Danish home soundsystem manufacturer Bang & Olufsen have unveiled a new CD player, set to retail for £45,000.

The Beosystem 9000c is the latest in Bang & Olufsen’s Recreated Classics line, and is described as a “feat of engineering” — reworking its vintage CD player design of the same name, which was created by David Lewis.

The CD player is a vertical structure which showcases six CDs and is complemented by a duo of Bang and Olufsen’s Beolab 28 hi-fidelity speakers, as well as the Beoconnect Encore which enables seamless connection between the CD player and the speakers, and a BeoRemote to control it with.

The 90s classic CD player of the same name was an icon of its time, and 200 of the original units have been recalled and reworked into a more modern rendition, with certain materials replaced and renewed to meet modern standards.

One of the new functions which reflects modern capabilities is its dynamic EQ which adapts the bass function of the hi-fi system in response to the system's positioning within the room.

Based on the concept of audiovisuality, the iconic design was originally inspired by a display in a record store window of six CDs, in 1995 Soho - an image which inspired creator David Lewis towards a system to showcase one’s music as well as just play it.
