Avicii will play his final DJ set at Ushuaïa Ibiza this weekend

A fitting place to end his DJ career

Back in March Avicii announced he would retire from tour life after 2016, stating that he “needed to make the change that I’d been struggling with for a while."

Now he’s announced that his final performance will take place on Sunday, August 28 at Ushuaïa Ibiza, the club where he has held a residency for the past five years.

As the fast-paced music industry can be taxing for DJs, Mixmag looked into the reasons behind why Avicii decided to retire at a seemingly early point in his career. The answer? Exhaustion from being overworked.

Between January 1, 2011 and January 1, 2016, Avicii played approximately 220 DJ sets in 261 weeks. All of this while continuously traveling around the world. In 2012, he took on the daunting task of playing 26 shows in 27 days while on a bus tour in North America.
