André 3000 hints at relaunch of '00s cartoon series "Class of 3000"

OutKast frontman turned flautist André 3000 (real name André Benjamin) has hinted that he could be open to relaunching his cartoon series Class of 3000.

At Camp Flog Gnaw festival in November, Benjamin told Canadian celebrity interviewer Nardwuar the Human Serviette that the seeds were planted during a phone conversation with the festival’s founder, Tyler, The Creator.

“[In] my very first conversation with Tyler, he said: ‘I know all the songs from Class of 3000.’ Tyler knows music, man,’” he recounted.

“We’re hoping to do something new with it, in some type of way,” he continued. “So yeah, stay tuned.”

Class of 3000 originally aired between 2006 and 2008 on Cartoon Network, with Benjamin writing and recording music for the series. He also voiced the character Sunny Bridges, a teacher on the show who had previously been a jazz musician.

“It was a lot of fun! We got to do songs every episode, we got to voice these characters,” he said.

This year, Benjamin released his debut solo album, ‘New Blue Sun’, which consisted entirely of flute solos, marking a departure from his previous rap and hip-hop music.

The LP has been nominated for Album Of The Year and Best Alternative Jazz Album at the upcoming GRAMMY Awards, while its opening track ‘I Swear, I Really Wanted To Make A “Rap” Album But This Is Literally The Way the Wind Blew Me This Time’ has been nominated for Best Instrumental Composition.
