Amsterdam’s SPIELRAUM to open new space CLUB RAUM

The duo behind Amsterdam’s much loved queer rave party, SPIELRAUM, are set to open their own bricks-and-mortar venue — CLUB RAUM

Set to open on the first weekend of October, the new club will operate under the same inclusive and expressive principles as its predecessor events brand, according to Sven Bijma and Diego Meijers, SPIELRAUM’S founders.

Since their 2017 debut, SPIELRAUM has gone one to become a cultural beacon and forerunner in the city’s queer nightlife scene with impressive international collaborations under their belt, like throwing a night with their resident DJ’s at Berlin’s iconic Berghain in 2019, as well as presenting at Whole Festival.

The party later went on to become one of the first “Collectives in Residence” upon the reopening of Amsterdam’s iconic De School venue back in October of last year.

On speaking of this collaboration, the duo has said “We found it hard to find a club that was willing to truly listen and adapt to our needs, since creating a space for the LGBTQIA+ community is such a precious task, as well as a space that was versatile enough to also offer musical diversity and give us the opportunity to approach SPIELRAUM in a more substantive way.”

In light of De School’s planned closurein January of 2024 supporters will be happy to know that SPIELRAUM now has a tangible, permanent residence.CLUB RAUM will be located near Sloterdijk Station in a spacious former ‘60s industrial building and promises the highest level of sound and to constantly push the boundaries of electronic music.

The exact programming details are still TBA, but we can expect local resident DJ’s like Fafi Abdel Nour, KI/KI and Mary Lake. The club has also confirmed international names like Mama Snake and Sedef Adasï as well Munich based trans activist BASHKKA, and London based Angel D’lite, will also make regular appearances at their club nights.
