Amsterdam’s De School announces final run of summer parties

Amsterdam's De School has announced its 2023 summer programme — the final run of summer parties before it closes permanently in January 2024.

The De Zomernacht - which translates to Summer Night - parties will run throughout July and August on Fridays and Saturdays.

Comprehensive line-ups are still TBA, but collaborators are set to include Brussels station Kiosk Radio, Amsterdam club Pamela, and underground techno events company Disturbia.

The technical school-turned-nightclub, which is owned and run by Post CS B.V. (who previously ran Amsterdam’s Trouw and Club 11) also has a concert space, a restaurant, a café, an exhibition space and a gym, and is situated on Doctor Jan van Breemenstraat in the west of Amsterdam.

It reopened its doors in August of last year, afterbeing closed since March of 2020, in part due to financial issues relating to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The club had previously come under fire earlier in 2020 over allegations of racial injustice and sexual misconduct. These issues were addressed via a live podcast from the club where members of the senior team, including the venue's owner Jochem Dornbusch, participated in a panel discussion called "Taking Responsibility", that was moderated by Souhayla Ou-Oumar.

De School later released an updated code of conduct statement preceding their reopening weekend, writing that "We do not condone aggression, assault, discrimination, exclusion, harassment, and/or physical or verbal or violence such as (but not limited to): ableism, antisemitism, (body)shaming, bullying, intimidation, islamophobia, racism, queerphobia, sexism, sexual misconduct and/or transphobia".
