Amber Shells
This is the start of something big
To make it as a DJ in London, you've got to have something special going for you. There are hundreds of keen selectors, vying for the opportunity to make it big in the capital but Amber Shells are a duo who know exactly what it takes to do that. Comprising of James Hutchins and James Rail, the pair have been on heavy rotation across the city and all of Europe for that matter.
Hutchins, as Hutch, is a touring member of Shy FX's Party On The Moon, an inclusion that's seen him play at Snowbombing, Love Saves The Day and more recently Glastonbury, where he rolled out a set on the Hell Stage in Shangri-La at 1.30am to a full audience. The ultimate party-starter.
Rail has come from a more drum 'n' bass-led background and although he's also got house and techno in his locker, he played alongside LTJ Bukem and DJ Marky at Electric Brixton earlier in the year as well as closing the main room at Motion in Bristol and shutting down Croatia’s legendary Barberella’s.
Together as Amber Shells, they combine their extensive knowledge of house and techno to channel a new, rawer sound through mind-bending productions and live shows. Their debut live performance happened at the hotly-tipped Meadow In the Mountains this year and after rave reviews, we can finally hear the first fruits of their labour.
'Sawtooth Pen' has already found its way into the record bag of Klose One and now we've got the full premiere. The cut has a chugging groove and a kick that bites, so once you add in the alien bleeps and gurgles you've got a track that's capable of whipping any dancefloor into shape. A nice slice of chunk and a promising start for the duo.
