A flood of Spotify users reported that they were locked out of the app last night for almost two hours.
Over 72,000 reports came in during the first hour that the app went down, which was first reported at around 6:PM yesterday, March 8.
Users took to social media to discuss the temporary crash, and reported being logged out or shown vague messages reading: “something went wrong”, or asking users to “try again”.
Some Spotify users have now reported that their accounts have been deleted as a result of the crash.
“Something’s not quite right, and we’re looking into it,” Spotify said on Twitter during the outage. “Thanks for your reports!” they added.
The streaming service was back up and running again by 7:39PM last night, although thousands of users have now reported being logged out of the app without the ability to get back in.
Messaging platform Discord also ran into problems at the same time, and although this is thought to be coincidental, some are speculating that both problems could be linked to Google Cloud. The app was up and running again at around the same time.
Matthew Prince, co-founder of Cloudflare, suggested that the issues were linked, tweeting: "We’ve seen reports of service outages across the Internet. Confirmed Cloudflare’s services all operational. No uptick in attacks.”
