Publisher 33 1/3 has announced a new series of books exploring music genres.

Known for their short books about individual albums, 33 1/3 usually favour long-form reviews and accompanying histories of the record in question. Past texts include The Beach Boys' 'Pet Sounds', David Bowie’s 'Low' and Aphex Twin’s 'Selected Ambient Works Volume II'.

For ‘Genre: A 33 1/3 Series,’ they will instead offer a line of genre-specific works, investigating the sounds of South African pop and dance-punk to field recordings and feminist anarcho-punk.

The collection will launch next Spring with RJ Wheaton’s book on trip hop and Kirk Walker Graves’ deep dive into vaporwave.

Readers can expect related song recommendations, obscure facts and personal stories.
